2008.Aug.27 Have repaired both boots, and now her back is out...
2008.Aug.21-23 Looking good except heels still tend to grow too fast, and she tends to land toe first, and lean forward to keep pressure off heels. She still shifts weight only gingerly, but when left behind in paddock/pasture, she gallops around as if nothing is wrong. (excitement will do that) On the trail she starts off eager to trot, then slows down. Obviously, her heels get sore after 30 minutes.

2008.Aug.20 Try inserting comfort pads. There were no mis-steps, or lameness, and she trotted out as normal, but she still held her breath and even bit my leg. (Her way of saying Ouch) Turn out with boots on to see if it encourages movement... She cantered and galloped around. Not very conclusive. Hey! Where are your boots?
2008.Aug.15 Interesting week, 106 degree days, plus 3rd week of xeno-detox at peak, so she is sweating some, and very much in heat. Hope the toxins are leaving!
2008.Jul.25 Lower front heels. Finally looking correct.
2008.Jun.06 Got around to taking pictures. Looking good except heels still tend to grow too fast, and she tends to land toe first. Now treating it as a fungal infection in her heels by soaking in oxine.

2006.Feb.01 Trimmed front heels and bars. FL bars are uneven, as I took the pictures before finishing. Thus to emphasize the question about bar length.

2006.Feb.01 Trimmed front heels and bars. FR doesn't quite look balanced overall, if I rasp the heels to a perpendicular from the sole view.

2006.Jan.03 Roll all edges. Measure front toe angles at 49-50*. Hind toe angles 52*. Measure bulb height at 1 1/8 - 1.25" (not bad) Leave heels untouched. Nice concavity.
2005.Nov.16 Due to snow washing hooves, here is a very visible discoloration in HL. Looking more closely, it does occur in all hooves, at the same growth ring, perhaps 6 months ago. update Jul.09: Cowgirl shows a willingness to eat Hoary Alyssum, a toxic mustard. Her previous field is full of it. Mystery probably solved.

2005.Nov.03 Finally got some pictures, many were blurred... but she is holding still longer. Just not long enough to get good pictures. :) This is showing: Front trimmed 3 days ago, flares had less to rasp down, didn't remove as much heel as I should've. Cleaned up frog, and rolled edges.

2005.Sep.17 After I started getting the angles better, she became much more receptive to having me work with her feet, and was (finally!) holding them up for me, without dancing around. Of course, I spent much time just picking them up to reward her, and put them down while it was my idea. :) I managed to trim the front before she became tired of standing, I was working on the hind feet after the 2nd hour. So hind are partially trimmed, unable to get pictures. Heel length looks better, flaking sole suggests more could be trimmed, post-trim analysis on angles still suggest another 5 degrees, but probably better to do less the first time.

2005.Sep.16 untrimmed status Has been barefoot all her life, and not had her feet picked up very much. Finally got her feet to stay up and hold still long enough to get some pictures. Clearly, the heels are Long. Both toe angle and hair-line angle suggest 10 degrees. Considering the amount of exercise she gets on her own, today cantering around like a youngster with energy to burn for perhaps half an hour, her feet should be getting sufficient wear on their own... if her pasture had enough rocks for abrasion. One thing that concerns me, is the flares on the sides of her hooves. The angle midway down from the coronet changes, suggesting separation (or weakness) of the laminae. (Or deficiency of biotin and/or sulphur (MSM))
